At MiTek, we’re proud of the projects we undertake, whether its ambitious one-of-a-kind projects, or everyday housing. Each build is memorable, and unique.
We are delighted to announce that our project, Our Lady of Peace Cathedral in Chad is the winner in the SAISC Steel Awards 2023 ‘Light Steel Frame’ Category.
The SAISC Steel Awards recognise the very best in the steel industry, bringing together extraordinary projects and the individuals who bring them to life.
Recognising excellence in design, engineering and steel construction, the awards highlight the remarkable contributions steel has made in shaping the built environment.
The MiTek team were brought on board to help bring Chad Church back to its former glory. A build like no other, an impressive 120 tonnes of steel were used to erect the roof. It’s a project that required careful planning – many said it couldn’t be done, but MiTek believed otherwise.
Taking the building’s foundations into consideration, the use of MiTek’s Ultra Span, meant the weight of the roof could be split across 850 centres, with trusses clustered close together, minimising the impact on the original foundations.
We overcame considerable logistical challenges, as the steel wasn’t able to travel through nearby Cameroon, instead travelling via Spain to reach its final destination in Chad.
With confident project management, and seamless teamwork, the project was completed under the previous contractor’s budget.
We are proud to see our work recognised in the awards, as well as playing our part in bringing N’Djamena’s Catholic community their church back in all its splendour.
